THE LIFE AND MINISTRY OF BISHOP N. A. TACKIE-YARBOI

FORMATIVE YEARS

Bishop N.A. Tackie-Yarboi was born on the 14th November 1958 in Kumasi to Nii Amugi Sorse Tackie-Yarboi, a Pharmacist of Abola Moawe and Madam Vivian Atswei Sowah of Teshie both of blessed memory.

He is the 4th among six siblings. He was brought to Accra where he began his formal primary education at Osu “Darley 2” and his middle schooling at Osu Presbyterian Middle Boys’ Boarding School. He finalized his Middle School education at Apenkwa Shiayema.

He continued with his secondary education at the Ebenezer Secondary School. It was during the 1976/77 academic year of his secondary education that he gave his life to Christ.

REBIRTH EXPERIENCE

Tackie-Yarboi joined the school’s Scripture Union. He was greatly influenced by personalities such as Stephen Annan Ankomah, the then Scripture Union President of the school and Peter Dzandza in his christian walk. He had brief stint of fellowship with Youth For Christ where he encountered one James Ebo Whyte who influenced his passion for reading. He also fellowshipped with the Ghana Evangelical Society under the leadership of Bro. Enoch Agbozo. Over there, he experienced the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues and was exposed to evangelism and dawn broadcast. Brethren such as Nii John Garshong, Ben Nartey and Ampim Sackey were instrumental in his spiritual upkeep.

FELLOWSHIP DAYS

After his sixth form education, he had brief stints of fellowship with the Evangel Assemblies of God, North Kaneshie Assemblies of God and the Apostolic Church.

In the early 1980’s he attended a Fellowship named Jesus’ People Fellowship whose leaders were Clement Asihene and Alex Acquah. This association evolved and he was made President of the fellowship by Clement Asihene by the leading of the Spirit.

Jesus People Fellowship was a Fellowship that met on Tuesdays and Thursdays and they adopted Christian Evangelical Ministry as their place of worship on Sundays. Rev. John Alex Cofie was the leader of Christian Evangelical Ministry. Jesus People Fellowship was located within the Accra New Town enclave. The Fellowship took advantage of the numerous vacation classes organized within their environ and preached to the students who enrolled. Within a brief moment the Fellowship grew in leaps and bounds. At the Christian Evangelical Ministry, Tackie-Yarboi acted in an associate minister’s capacity. John Alex Coffie operated more as an evangelist and was out for most of the time. The pastoral duties of the ministry fell on Tackie-Yarboi. Over time, he indicated to the leadership of the ministry he had plans to start his ministry.

On the 26th May 1985, he was formally prayed for and released.
